Do you often ask yourself “why do I feel tired all the times?” Here is the answer to it. If we have a busy lifestyle, we always blame exhaustion, and we are right too. Too much work can make you feel tired and exhausted all day long. Drink coffee, take rest and sleep for more than eight hours, take some holidays and enjoy a picnic with the family and see the difference.
But if this goes on and you feel tired every day, even sometimes when you do not work more, there can be a few reasons for that. Your health may not be at its 100% if you feel tired all the time. Sandra Adamson Fryhofer, who is a medical doctor in Atlanta, says that if this is the condition, then you must consider professional medical help. She says that it can be a sign of a serious health issue. Here are a few reasons why you feel tired all the time despite having an excellent diet and a healthy routine.
- Anemia
One of the leading causes of fatigue is the lack of oxygen in the blood. The blood makes sure that every cell of the body gets the proper amount of oxygen to work efficiently and actively. So, one of the reasons that you feel tired all the time is anemia. There are several causes of anemia on your body; you may have lost blood after an accident, there is an internal bleeding, there is some vitamin or iron deficiency in the blood, you may have a chronic disease, etc. According to Laurence Corash, who is a medical professor at the University of California in San Francisco, says during pregnancy and menstruation, women lose a lot of blood which makes them tired. It is the time when they need more blood in their systems. He says it is this time when they are susceptible to anemia because of iron deficiency.
Symptoms: The primary symptom is that you feel tired, and you feel weakness in your body. You may not sleep well, you cannot concentrate, there is an increased heartbeat most of the time, and you may have chest pains and sudden headaches. If you go for a walk or jog a little it causes tiredness, all these are the symptoms of anemia which causes extreme fatigue.
Tests: The tests which are performed in this case are the CBC test i.e. complete blood count test. It checks the level of red blood cells and also monitors blood loss.
- Diabetes
Another reason that you feel tired all the time and can’t do a lot of work is diabetes. It is the type-2 diabetes which is responsible for fatigue. We all know that the sugar is the fuel for the body. The patients with diabetes are often told to cut off their sugar levels. It means that their blood will not have enough sugar to keep them active. Christopher D. Saudek, who is the professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, says that fatigue is the first sign if diabetes.
Symptoms: Besides fatigue, the signs of diabetes are hunger, yeast infection, thirst, loss of weight, frequent urination, irritability, and also the blurred visions.
Tests: the first test is the Fasting Plasma Glucose test. The purpose of this test is to measure the level of blood sugar after staying empty stomach for eight hours. The second test is the OGTT i.e. the oral glucose tolerance test. This test involves taking blood before taking glucose and after taking glucose.
3. Depression
Depression and stress are another cause of extreme fatigue. Because of depression, you cannot sleep well, you cannot eat well, and you cannot do the chores and concentrate properly. All are the signs which result in tiredness all the time. If you do not treat depression, it can last for months.
Symptoms: Depression can reduce the energy levels of the body; it will change the way you eat and sleep. It may also affect the memory. You may feel hopeless and have a negative feeling about everything.
Tests: Like other diseases, there is no proper medical test for depression. The only test is the doctor asking you a few questions. It is only the symptoms which can tell that you have depression as a disease. If you have at least five of these symptoms, you should probably see a medical expert. These symptoms include sad feelings, extreme fatigue. In this condition you either sleep too much or do not sleep at all, you have a loss of appetite, your weight increases or decreases at a rapid rate, and you do not connect with people. In this condition you experience a headache, you have digestive problems, cannot enjoy the activities, have difficulty in remembering stuff, and you feel guilty or even have thoughts to commit suicide.
4. Rheumatoid Arthritis
It is an immunity-related disease. It is a deadly disease, it is when the immune system is reversed, and it damages the bones and cartilage. It is one of the leading causes of feeling tired all the time. It may not be diagnosed quickly, but there are a few symptoms that can help you know if you have it.
Symptoms: The symptoms of this disease are the weakness, tiredness, joint pain, loss of appetite, and also other types of arthritis like lupus and fibromyalgia. According to the CEO of Arthritis Foundation in Atlanta, GA, John Klippel, people who have Rheumatoid Arthritis also have extreme thyroid disorders and anemia. He also says that the people with Rheumatoid Arthritis experience stiff joints for at least an hour before they can walk. He also says that individuals who have this disease experience soft tissue swelling; they have a swollen joint anywhere in the finger or knees etc. Some other symptoms include tissue lumps under the skin and bone erosions which are only detected by the X-rays.
Tests: A physical scan of the entire body is conducted. This scan identifies a rheumatoid factor in the body. The rheumatoid factor is a blood antibody.
5. The Chronic Fatigue
Another disease which immediately causes tiredness is the CFS or the chronic fatigue syndrome. The chronic fatigue affects the normal routines and people cannot work properly.
Symptoms: the symptoms of this disease are muscle pain, headache, joint pain, lymph nodes become tender, weakness, and loss of concentration. There is no proper cause for this disease.
Tests: There are no tests for this disease. It is diagnosed based on the symptoms.
6. Sleep Apnea
It is a disease in which you always feel tired even after having hours of relaxing sleep. It is a sleeping disorder. It is a condition in which you wake up at night several times which does not allow you to have a proper sleep. Roseanne S. Barker, who was the medical director at Baptist Sleep Institute in Knoxville, Tennessee, says the reason is that there are brief breathing interruptions. The flow of air inside the nose stops because the airway closes. Once it happens, you cannot breathe, and you wake up. Many patients cannot sleep at all because of this problem; they wake up hundreds of times during the night due to breathing problems.
Symptoms: the symptoms of this disease are extreme snoring and fatigue the next day. It can also lead to heart diseases.
Tests: The test of this is conducted when the patient stays overnight in the clinic so that the doctor can observe the patient. The purpose of the test is to monitor the sleeping and breathing patterns during the night.
